By IES Playamar (Spain) & Mendelova School (Nový Jičín, Czech Republic)
International cooperation allows us to explore sustainability through different cultural and educational lenses. As part of our ongoing partnership within the Green ICT Detectives project, IES Playamar teamed up with Mendelova School in Nový Jičín to create new, interactive teaching units based on authentic local educational materials from the Czech Republic.
Inspired by «Mozaika»: Education for a Sustainable World
To design these teaching units, our educators used the Czech educational magazine Mozaika (specifically the issue focused on «Vzdělávání pro udržitelný svět» — Education for a Sustainable World, published by DZS).
Drawing from the magazine’s articles, real-world case studies, and environmental initiatives, both schools collaborated to develop practical learning activities centered on:
- Local Sustainability Practices: Analyzing regional initiatives in Nový Jičín and the Czech Republic regarding ecosystem protection, biodiversity, and sustainable resource management.
- Cross-Curricular Learning: Adapting the Czech magazine content into interactive English language tasks, allowing students to expand their technical environmental vocabulary, reading comprehension, and analytical skills.
A Powerful Synergy Within «Green ICT Detectives»
This joint effort represents another successful synergy within our Green ICT Detectives framework. By transforming authentic materials like Mozaika into accessible classroom tools, all partner schools in our network benefit from shared, high-quality bilingual educational resources.
Through this project, students from Spain and the Czech Republic not only deepen their knowledge of local and global ecological challenges but also strengthen their digital research skills and international teamwork.
Working together across borders proves that whether in Spain or the Czech Republic, our shared goal remains the same: educating for a greener, more sustainable future! 🌿🌍✨
