Innovation in the classroom: Vocational IT students blend coding with environmental awareness.
As part of our environmental program, technology and digital design have come together in a truly innovative way. Students from our Advanced Vocational IT Program (Grado Superior de Informática) have developed an interactive web tool: an Environmental Calligram Generator.
What are Calligrams and How Does the Tool Work?
A calligram is a visual composition where text is arranged to form an image related to the message itself. With this new web app, students and teachers can convert eco-friendly phrases, poems, or reflections into scalable vector designs in SVG format.
The tool generates custom shapes inspired by nature:
- Tree and leaf silhouettes for messages about reforestation and biodiversity.
- Waves and water droplets for awareness campaigns on responsible water usage.
- Other natural motifs that transform environmental data or keywords into interactive visual art.
By generating vector files (SVG), the resulting calligrams maintain high visual quality, making them perfect for digital posters, web publications, or project infographics without losing resolution.

Advanced Vocational IT Project & eTwinning TwinSpace Showcase
This generator was not only used as an educational resource to create environmental awareness materials in the classroom, but it was also officially presented as an Advanced Vocational IT Senior Project. Developing this application allowed students to apply advanced skills in web programming, vector graphics manipulation, and UI/UX design.
Furthermore, the students’ hard work went beyond our school walls: the final projects and visual creations made by the students—using both this interactive tool and their own custom designs—have been shared and showcased with our international partners on the TwinSpace platform as part of our eTwinning project.

Thanks to this initiative, our «Green Detectives» and the international educational community now have a custom tool to express sustainability messages through digital art, programming, and European collaboration. A clear example of how Computer Science can serve our planet!
